Earthquake Valves
A large earthquake could strike at any time; you could be asleep or away at work. Earthquakes can cause gas piping to crack, break, leak, and create serious risk of explosion, fire, and suffocation. An earthquake valve safeguards you, your loved ones, pets, home, and belongings at all times.
An earthquake valve is an automatic way to shut off the low pressure regulated gas supply to a structure during a major earthquake and/or if a pipe is broken. These small devices are installed on the property gas meter and are designed to instantly stop the natural gas supply in order to protect the structure if a gas leak or line break occurs during an earthquake.
Automatic gas shut-off valves are an excellent way to insure that your gas is shut off in the case of a major earthquake. They are recommended by the Los Angeles Fire Department. In Los Angeles, California they are required to be installed when you sell your home or do more than a $10,000 remodel. With an automatic valve your gas will be off even if you aren't home at the time.
